Yo-Yo Placemat Project

Do you LOVE making fabric yo-yos using the new Clover Quick Yo-Yo Makers?

Here’s a great gift idea! If you have the JUMBO and Large size Yo-Yo Makers, you probably already have everything else you need to complete this project.

Yo-Yo Placemats are a sure fire way to add color and interest to your table. Make them totally scrappy; or contrasting 2 color; or single color scrappy; or any way you may dream up.

Fabric Yo-Yo thoughts & more ideas for fabric Yo-Yo lovers

Friday, August 29th, 2008

If you subscribe to the eNews or if you’ve read this blog for very long, you know that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE fabric yo-yos.

It’s true…when Clover came out with the Quick Yo-Yo Makers, I was completely hooked!

I love this cool tool sew much that Jeff & I made a couple tutorial videos:

Here’s a tip to build up your fabric yo-yo stash rather quickly:

I personally use multiples of every size & shape Clover Yo-Yo Maker.  I store the Makers pre-loaded with fabric.  That way,  when I sit down in the evening or over the weekend I’m ready to stitch up as many yo-yos as I feel like stitching.  I keep a bag of fabric scraps handy to reload fabric into the tool as soon as I complete a yo-yo. I sort the finished yo-yo’s by shape and color.

Yo-Yo Makers are portable!!! When I know that I’m going to be traveling, I pack up my pre-loaded Yo-Yo Makers in Gallon size freezer bags.

The other day I discovered that Clover offers several FREE pdf projects for yo-yos.  Check out these fun projects:

Clover Flower Yo-Yo Maker FREE how-to YouTube Video

Saturday, August 2nd, 2008

The video is ready! I experienced a LOT of frustration with the first flower yo-yos I made using the Clover Flower Quick Yo-Yo Makers.

The included instructions were not very intuitive or easy–I felt.  Once I figured out how to make them look pretty Jeff and I put together a video showing how I make mine.  My way is not necessarily the *right* way or even the *best* way…it’s just the way I do it and I like my results.  If you have a way that works better for you, please feel free to share your tips.

NOTE #1:  YouTube limits video length to 10 minutes.  That wasn’t enough time to show all the steps, so there are two clips below (scroll down, they are listed one on top of the other).

NOTE #2:  You will notice my watch shows the time at about 6:00 on these clips.  That’s 6:00AM…yes, in the morning.  We started this set at about 5:45AM.  We film very early to take advantage of the best quiet and least distraction.  BUT, it’s still 6:00AM…wincing grin…it’s an interesting exercise in trying to engage brain and voice that early in the morning.

The tweezers I use in this video are Bohin Long Handle Tweezers, available at SewThankful.  You can find the Clover Quick Yo-Yo Makers (in flower, heart and circle shapes) at SewThankful too.
